Why the Hawthorn Witches Novella series is ending

Mostly because the books were getting difficult to condense into novella form, though I know some people have enjoyed their brevity. Some avid readers were completing them in a single day between bus commutes to and from work, which is wonderful, but the mounting conflicts, obstacles, and drama that Annie, Gates, Charlie, Vince, and others are facing just can't be contained in less than 40,000 words anymore.

All future works set in the Hawthorn Universe will be novel length.  I thought I would be done with novella #9 by now, but the story just keeps going.  (It may not technically be a "novella" by the time I'm done.  Shh!  Don't tell anyone!)

I don't have any outlined right now, but I've toyed with giving Kendra a novel or two focusing on her earlier years with the werewolves, Camille, Stark, and (of course) Charlie.  I've thought about writing one that focuses on Annie and Gates after this series.  I've thought about giving the whole of Abramstown its own series... Wait, you don't know about Abramstown?  Stay tuned for novellas #8 and #9, then. ;)

I've been at my keyboard so much these last few weeks that I completely missed a couple of new releases, so here they are:

Sirens & Sage is Done

I finished writing Sirens & Sage, the 8th novella in the Hawthorn Witches series.  I stayed up late last night writing it, much to the chagrin of my husband (thank you, dear, for putting up with my late nights and extensive pre-sleep routine).  But now it's done, and I have submitted the pre-order.

This one came in at more than 36k words, which is longer than average for the series.  It is an important book in Gates and Annie's journeys, though, so I wanted to take the time to do it right.

I'll update with a link here when the pre-order goes live.

Happy reading,
Al

The Next Waldgrave Book is Done!

Last night I wrote the final chapter in the next Waldgrave novel.  I've blogged about why this has taken me so long before, but suffice it to say that this was a difficult book to complete.  It clocked in at just over 80,000 words and most of the fan favorite characters made a return.

Most of this book takes place on the other side.  Yes, I do have plans to continue the series.  A draft cover is below.

Beta readers, your email will be arriving soon.  :)

Happy Reading,
Al
